Towards messaging solutions in an IMS environment

eServGlobal attended the Global Messaging forum on 5 and 6 June in Monaco. There, we gave a presentation entitled "Taking the best of both worlds from legacy to IMS: Ensuring service continuity and new service capabilities".

With the emergence of IM (Instant Messaging), customers have increasing expectations of instant delivery. The eServGlobal MessageMax solution provides SMS (Short Message Service) termination to IM, compatible with SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)-based IM systems. Similar services for email will be available in future releases.

Providing new ways to receive SMS messages will have benefits for both mobile and broadband operators, by increasing the SMS traffic sent on mobile operators’ networks, and associated revenue. Using MessageMax will also give internet service providers the opportunity to collect termination fees for SMS messages.

The eServGlobal MessageMax solution provides a gateway towards instant messaging systems, allowing operators to offer additional services to their customers, as well as bridge legacy and NGN (Next Generation Networking) networks.

MessageMax offers additional strength to operators to handle SMS anti-fraud and anti-spam services, to guarantee that SMS will remain a desirable communication tool. The solution intercepts and filters traffic with rules based on originating address, keywords, and identical content, among others.

To provide more value to customers, in future the MessageMax solution can be integrated with an existing or new M@ilis installation to provide a unified storage facility for all incoming messages.

Messaging applications for IMS networks should take into account the existing installed base by providing some bridges between the legacy and the new networks. Integrating the MessageMax solution will allow operators to rationalise investments, operations and to obtain better features, more capacity, scalability and security.

An enhanced Availability solution for true convergence

One of the challenges facing corporate telecommunications customers in the new converged environment is how to manage their many devices and contact mechanisms.

Availability is essential for mobility solutions. Customers are increasingly used to managing their presence and availability using instant messaging to filter incoming calls, messages and video or conference sessions.

However, many fixed-line and mobile phones do not provide these features in a convenient way. Operators need a strong solution to address the issue of availability for their VPN (Virtual Private Network) offer for corporate clients. Thanks to the eServGlobal INMax family, an innovative Parallel Hunting solution provides a better experience for both callers and end-customers.

The solution allows the subscriber to be simultaneously called on all of the defined terminals, using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) handsets working under IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) standards. As soon as one terminal is answered, the remaining terminals are instructed to stop ringing immediately. Simultaneous calling delivers the call quickly and in the most convenient way for the customer.

The INMax solution will enable operators to provide new services in the IMS environment. However, if operators have a mixture of legacy and NGN (Next Generation Networking) systems, the INMax solution integrates with existing sequential systems to ensure a seamless service.

eServGlobal has recently introduced a Parallel Hunting solution to one of their customers employing the eServGlobal SIP Control Agent in conjunction with existing VPN components. This solution has allowed the customer to demonstrate their position as the centre of excellence within their organisation. After the successful launch of the parallel hunting option, it is now being rolled out into other parts of their organisation in Europe.

Parallel Hunting can be offered as enhanced functionality to eServGlobal’s premium VPN service, ensuring that operators have an even more comprehensive offering for customer loyalty.
